    In response to the podcast about CBL. I have been using the back loading for LEAN gains for my bodybuilding shows and I couldn’t be happier, kiefer has discovered what I call Voo Doo. It works like a charm and there is absolutely no better way to gain lean mass. I also use his carb nite in order for me to trim down when I’m getting closer to my show and stepping on stage. That book is also very useful for all types of people. I have introduced both of these books to a wide variety of people and every person that follows them correctly has had an amazing transformation.

  2. I wanted to clear up about the insulin sensitivity comment in the interview, only to be very precise. Resistance training DOES NOT increase insulin sensitivity of a time-course of a few hours. It increases GLUT4 and GLUT12 translocation, meaning your muscles cells can absorb sugar without insulin. Resistance training decouples insulin sensitivity and sugar absorption in muscle cells.

    Also, it’s actually very easy for carbs to be turned into fat. The statement that it’s hard for the body to turn carbs into fat isn’t true (the glycerine backbone of triglycerides is a carb and is needed to store fat and FAS (fatty-acid synthase) is a low-energy, high efficiency converter of glucose into fatty acids).

    Finally, in this comment thread, I know exactly why junk at night accelerates results at night. There’s an entire chapter in the book about why the “junk” is superior. The reason the fat load doesn’t matter so much is a secret I’m not sharing yet…but soon.

  6. I just discovered Sean’s work and this was a great interview.

    Slowly but surely I’m moving my meals and the bulk of my carbs later into the night and training in the morning fasted. I can say my workouts have been as good or better than ever. Still too early to tell a body comp difference, but this has put to rest any fear of a performance decline if one doesn’t eat carbs (or anything) prior to workouts.

  7. The research I’ve looked into has always shown carbs best eaten at night, which kind of plays into the carb-backloading. However, anytime I think of Kiefer, all I think about is him and Lyle McDonald debating on EliteFTS. Listening to how idiotic Kiefer sounded on that debate, it makes me weary of his diet ideologies, but carb-backloading is something I tend to agree with, and implicitly done with programs like leangains.
